PEER HELPERS  MOUNTAIN BROOK JUNIOR HIGH

In 1993, the National Peer Helpers Association defined peer helping as, “a variety of supportive services initiated by peers in diverse settings. Peers are individuals who share common characteristics and experiences.”

Qualities of a Peer Helper

National Association of Peer Program Professionals (NAPPP) states,  

“The characteristics sought among prospective peer helpers are:

  • Caring
  • Acceptance
  • Genuineness
  • Understanding
  • Helpfulness
  • Trustworthiness
  • Concern for others
  • Ability to listen
  • Potential to serve as a potential role model.”
